Macquarie University has been chosen to participate in the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (REAP) program, announced today.

MIT REAP announced its 6th Cohort of international regional teams from Italy, Denmark, China, Ecuador, USA, UK, Mexico, Norway and Australia.

The team, led by Professor David Wilkinson, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Corporate Engagement and Advancement) is the only team from Australia in this cohort.

Professor Wilkinson said Macquarie is well-placed to participate in the entrepreneur program as host of the Incubator, a space designed to nurture, equip and accommodate budding entrepreneurs as they grow a business idea or social venture into a successful start-up, and as a founding partner of the Macquarie Park Innovation District (MPID).

“We are delighted to participate in this exciting program, and I know we will gain many insights to bring back to share with our colleagues and University partners,” said Professor Wilkinson.

Macquarie’s team is comprised of Ernst and Young, NAB, AMP Capital, Kingsway Australia, Lendlease and Macquarie University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, Faculty of Business and Economics, and Corporate Engagement.

The teams will be travelling to MIT for the first of four workshops from October 2018 to learn the MIT REAP frameworks they can use to create impact in their region.

REAP is a global initiative which helps regions accelerate economic growth and promote social progress through innovation-driven entrepreneurship. Partner regions form multi-disciplinary teams and commit to a two-year learning engagement during which teams work with MIT faculty and the broader MIT REAP community to build and implement a custom regional strategy for enhancing their IDE ecosystems.
