Macquarie University and Optus have partnered to offer a cadetship program to engineering students, launched earlier this year.

The Cadetship program with Optus is offered to students who major in telecommunications engineering, and successful students will be paid to study through their degree and will accrue work experience with Optus in their semester breaks.

Over the course of the cadetship they will work in different areas of the business to give them a good overview of the practical aspects of working in telecommunications, where students complete units of study at Macquarie then work on a related practical project at Optus.

“Optus are really understanding and flexible when it comes to working around study commitments,” said Tristan Curry, a cadet student in the program.

“Another thing I really like about Optus is that there are both horizontal and vertical possibilities for career progression and down the track I might end up working in any part of the business. Being part of Singtel also means that there is potentially scope to work overseas in the future if that’s what you want.”

Applications for the cadetships open after students have successfully enrolled into the Bachelor of Engineering program.

The cadetship selection process is managed by Optus’ human resources team, which gives students exposure to business recruitment processes at an early stage in their career.
