Ridout presented an occasional address to graduates of an afternoon ceremony for the Faculty of Business and Economics. Her affiliation with the Faculty stretches back many years, including recent involvement in its annual Women, Management and Work Conference.

She is also a director of the Australian Securities Exchange and various companies, including Image Networks Holdings and Sims Metal Management, the world’s largest publicly listed recycling company.  The boards that Ridout serves on range from the Australian Chamber Orchestra to Asialink; Advance Australia Advisory Board and L.E.K. Consulting Advisory Board.

She is also co-Chair of the Australian-Canada Economic Leadership Dialogue and a delegate to the B20 which is the key business advisory body to the international economic forum and will includes business leaders from all G20 economies.

Born in Deniliquin in New South Wales, Ridout qualified with a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Sydney. Ridout’s previous roles demonstrate her broad interests and commitment: she was a member of the Henry Tax Review panel; a board member of Infrastructure Australia; a member of the Business Roundtable on Climate Change; a member of the National Workplace Relations Consultative Committee and of the Prime Minister’s Taskforce on Manufacturing.

Appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in June 2013 for her services to Australian industry, Ridout is also an Ambassador of the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation. Her opinion is sought after by media and she regularly appears in programs such as Q&A and Radio National Breakfast.

“In recognising Ms Ridout with this award, we hope that many of the graduates in the conferral ceremony will be inspired to forge their own outstanding business careers,” says Vice-Chancellor Professor S. Bruce Dowton. “We are delighted to recognise her considerable contribution to public life and look forward to continuing engagement with Ms Ridout into the future.”
