QS ranks Macquarie in Top 50 worldwide for three subject areas

Macquarie University is ranked among the top 50 institutions in the world when it comes to Linguistics (43rd), Psychology (48th) and Earth and Marine Sciences (48th) according to the 2014 QS World University Rankings by Subject, published today.

The QS analysis is based upon academic and employer reputation surveys, together with a research citations per faculty indicator. As part of the World University Rankings by Subject, QS evaluated 3,002 universities and ranked 689 institutions in total. Around 130 million citation attributions were analyzed and 10,639 programs were verified.

Geography, Law, Education, and Accounting and Finance at Macquarie made the Top 100, while a further eight subjects at Macquarie were considered among the “world’s elite” Top 200, according to QS. Macquarie was placed in the top five nationally for Philosophy and for Earth and Marine Sciences.

In the Australian Government’s most recent Excellence in Research for Australia analysis, 85% of Macquarie research was rated at or above world standard, and three disciplines – earth sciences, physical sciences and environmental sciences – received the maximum 5/5 rating.
