The Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) recently announced that Dr Alex Frino will take up the position of Dean in June this year. Dr Frino joins MGSM from the Capital Markets Co-operative Research Centre, where he was CEO, and from Sydney University where he was Professor of Finance.

Professor Judyth Sachs, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Provost) of Macquarie University said the School was delighted to welcome Dr Frino to the helm. “I have had the pleasure of working with Alex, and he has impressed me with his vision, leadership and ability to deliver,” she said.  “I am confident that he will build on the performance of MGSM and strengthen the School's position as a global leader in the provision of management education.”

Dr Frino said his work at CMCRC had laid a positive foundation for growth at MGSM. “At CMCRC a large part of my job was forging strong local and international connections, promoting Australia as a centre of excellence in research and education,” he said. “I’m looking forward to using these connections and experience to build on MGSM’s excellent reputation, to grow the school and anticipate the changing needs of the graduate students who will come to us both from Australia and around the world.”

Dr Frino said he was looking forward to working with the MGSM team. “My specialisation is finance, and one of the things I’m most excited about is working with a standout inter-disciplinary team,” he said. “Diversity in expertise is one of the things that makes MGSM a great school, and I’m really looking forward to learning from my colleagues as we work together.”

Dr Frino has a PhD in Finance from the University of Sydney and a Master of Philosophy in Finance from Cambridge University. Alex has published more than 100 research papers and one book and he has held visiting appointments at the SFE and Credit Suisse First Boston. He is a Certified Practising Accountant and serves on the Disciplinary Tribunal of the ASX.

Dr Frino will take over the school’s leadership from Associate Professor Guy Ford who has successfully served as Interim Dean since October 2012.
