Find your next star employee

MQBS undergraduate student traineeships help you to progress key projects while assessing the cultural fit over an extended period.

Undergraduate student traineeships enable you to engage with a student in a structured on-the-job learning program, helping you to identify and train talent while they study. In some cases, they may offer a seamless transition into employment.

The two-year program provides students with mentoring and support as they build technical expertise and professional skills, including:

  • collaborative teamwork
  • problem-solving
  • efficient time management.

Students in all disciplines develop key skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, professionalism, and digital and data literacy. Their discipline studies include:

  • Accounting
  • Actuarial Studies
  • Business Analytics
  • Business Information Systems
  • Cyber Security Governance
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Human Resources Management
  • International Business
  • Management and Leadership
  • Marketing

Overview

Student trainees can work part-time during the session and full-time during the session break. Traineeships are hosted on a 24-month basis in negotiation with the student.

We request that students are paid industry award rates or above; we recommend the federal minimum pay rates.

To recruit a student trainee, you will need to confirm and finalise your intention to recruit by October. This will ensure that the student can commence with you in the new year.

  • For single-degree programs, you can recruit first-year students who will begin their traineeships in their second year.
  • For double-degree programs, you can recruit second-year students who will begin their traineeships in their third year.

International students

We encourage employers to consider offering internships to international students. International students can add value through language skills, cultural capability, and lived experience across different markets, which is especially useful for organisations working with diverse customers or international partners.

International students can generally work up to 48 hours per fortnight during session, with unrestricted hours during scheduled course breaks. For the most up-to-date details, please refer to the Australian Government’s information on international student working rights.
