Biography

Professor Leonie Tickle is Deputy Dean Research and Innovation and Professor in Actuarial Studies.

She leads the strategic direction of research and innovation in the Macquarie Business School including fostering research excellence, impact, partnership, innovation and reputation.

Professor Tickle’s research in longevity modelling and forecasting is at the forefront of new developments in the area and includes stochastic mortality modelling and forecasting methods, longevity risk, population ageing and the impact on economies, health and mortality, insurance and actuarial science.

She has published in the leading international journals in the field including in Annals of Actuarial Science, where she co-authored the most highly cited paper in the journal’s history. Her research has also impacted practice of statistical agencies, regulators and the insurance industry nationally and internationally.

Professor Tickle has been awarded the Actuaries Institute H M Jackson and A M Parker prizes for research. She is also an award-winning educator, having received a national award and several Vice Chancellor’s awards for teaching and education leadership, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
