HMS Kangaroo

K

HMS Kangaroo - Brig (Royal Navy):
Dimensions: 220 tons. Crew: 31.
Arrived from England on 10 January 1814 under the command of Lieut. Charles Jeffreys RN. Remained in Australian waters until January 1817, apart from a voyage to Ceylon (1815-1816) transporting the final contingent of the 73rd Regiment for military duty on the island.
Macquarie experienced great difficulties in commanding and controlling the activities of Lieut. Jeffreys, who not only insisted on taking his wife on all of his voyages but also undertook extended cruises in Australian waters without official authorisation.
