Sydney Gazette: Death Announcement

Governor Macquarie.

"And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah."

To mention the name of this Personage, is to bring to the remembrance of Australia all that was eminent - all that was endearing ! This valuable Man (alas ! he was but mortal) is now no more - he sleepeth with his fathers!

We are not in possession of the particulars or the circumstances that preceded the demise of the late excellent GOVERNOR IN CHIEF of these Colonies, but we have a melancholy duty to perform in announcing to the Inhabitants of Australia that. Governor MACQUARIE was in London on business in June, in which city he died, after a short illness, on the 1st of July. His remains were to be conveyed to the Isle of Mull for interment.

The Sydney Gazette exhibits the usual demonstrations of affectionate respect towards superior departed Excellence.

Governor MACQUARIE was distinguished in life and is Illustrious in death. From our remembrance the Name of MACQUARIE can never be obliterated.
