Monday 1st. Feby. 1813.
Returned this day to Sydney from Parramatta whither I had gone on Saturday the 30th. Ulto., and spent my Birth-Day anniversary there on Sunday the 31st. January; Col: & Mrs. & Miss Davey, Dr. & Mrs. Redfern Capt. Locker 8th Lt. Dns, Major Jno. Maclaine, Capt. Kenny, Lt. Raymond, and our own Family (– in all 14 –) being the Party.

Tuesday 2d. Feby. 1813 !
This morning early between 1 and 2,O'Clock Lt. Jno. Maclaine, A,D.C. being on board the Ship Eugenia Capt. Blayd, in a state of extreme intoxication went up aloft in order to get to the Mizzen Top-mast Head, a stay by which he held having given way he fell down on the Deck from a height of 35 Feet, and dislocated his left arm in a most shocking and dangerous manner. The bone was set by Dr. Redfern between 2 & 3 OClock, and Mr. M. was brought on shore in a Cott [sic] to the Govt. House about 11,OClock, where now lies dangerously ill: – such being the Consequence of low Drinking and intemperance, this unfortunate young man deserves little pity!
