Major Cleaveland being obliged to go home to join the 2d. Battn. of the 73d. Regt. I have this Day appointed Capt. H. C. Antill (my former Aid de Camp) to succeed him as Major of Brigade, and my Cousin Lieut. John Maclaine of the 73d. Regt. to be Aid de Camp in room of Capt. Antill; their appointments having retrospective effect from the 25th. of June last inclusive.

Sunday 20th. Octr. 1811!
Early this morning the Ship Providence Capt. Andw. Barclay Comr. sailed for England by way of China, having Major Cleaveland, Lieut. Ovens of the 73d. and Capt. Piper & a Detachment of the 102d. Regt. on board as Passengers.

I have sent home Dispatches to the Secry. of State and to the Comr. in Chief of the Forces by this opportunity; giving charge of the latter to Major Cleaveland, and of the former to Capt. Piper of the 102d. Regiment. —

Mrs. Macquarie & myself wrote several Private Letters to our friends by this opportunity; and sent a Pair of Black Swans to Sir Robert Abercromby, another Pair to Genl. Campbell of Monzie, and some New South Wales Woods to Sir David Baird, on board of the Providence, all under charge of Capt. Piper, and which Presents he is to deliver over to Mr. Alexr. Birnie Mercht. in London on his arrival there. — I sent Complete and regular Series of the N.S.Wales Gazettes to Sir Robt. Abercromby, Archy Campbell of London, and to my Broyr. Charles, by Capt. Piper; and a similar Complete Series of Gazettes by Major Cleaveland to Admiral Phillip, the founder & first Govr. of N.S.Wales! —

Monday 21. Octr. 1811 —
[A]t ½ past 4. P.M. I set out wt. Mrs. M., accompanied by my Staff, on a visit to Parramatta, and returned again to Sydney at 4. P.M. on Wednesday 23d. of October! —
