September

Septr. 5.
Sunday. — I this day made a Present of my large Plated Tea Urn to Captain and Mrs. Morley, it having been a Present from the late Mr. Morley to my late angelic Jane on her marriage, and having the Morley Arms on it, I thought I could not dispose of it better than by giving it to his son and thereby restoring it to his Family. —

Septr. 6.
Monday! — On this day I had an Outcry of all my Household Furniture and Plate at my office in the Bunder; the whole having sold for only Two Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy two Rupees (Rs. 2672.) – not being near half of what these articles originally cost.

I have reserved unsold several Articles of my late beloved Wife's Family Plate, which had been left her by her Mother – and which it is my intention to retain forever in my own Family as precious relics of my Angelic Jane and her Family!

An Overland Dispatch from England was this afternoon received from Bussorah, with English Papers down to the 28th. of May, containing accounts of the Ratification of the Definitive Treaty of Peace between Great Britain and France having taken place on the 14th. of April. — These Papers also contain the long expected Brevet Promotion in the Army – and which at length includes me – and makes me a Lieut. Colonel from the 29th. of last April! —

Septr. 21.
Tuesday. — The Romney Man of War, Commanded by Commodore Sir Home Popham, anchored this Evening in the Harbour from the Red Sea. —

Septr. 26.
Sunday! — I had the misfortune this day to lose my excellent and most valuable Clerk Serjt. Wm. Browse of the 75th. Regt., who died of a very short illness, and whose death I sincerely regret, as he was a most excellent good man and a most respectable character. It was my intention to have got him a Commission had he lived. —
