Foundations in Learning and Teaching (FiLT) 2016 - Session 1
The FiLT program provides a suite of online modules designed to introduce you to teaching in a tertiary context. Using Biggs' 3P framework as a way of understanding this complex environment, each module will look in detail at a specific aspect of learning and teaching in the tertiary context in Australia. By studying this program, you will also be experiencing the learning environment that many of your students experience, whether they are full-time, part-time, distance or on campus students.
Each module will provide you with an overview of contemporary theories for learning and teaching practice, the voice of experienced teachers and peers, and a rich set of useful resources. These will help build a platform from which you will develop your own teaching approach. The modules are designed to be interactive therefore you will be required to participate in discussions and learning activities during each module, to reflect on your own responses to issues and tasks, and to share ideas with your fellow participants. This interaction with your peers provides a foundation for an ongoing Community of Practice based on the FiLT Alumni group. You’ll hear more about this later in the year.
As you work through the modules you can track your progress by checking off each activity that you complete. Satisfactory completion is dependent on your activity and participation in the unit activities and assignments. An assessment task is set for each module and an assessment marking rubric is provided.
By completing all four modules from the FiLT program you will be eligible for a FiLT certificate. While this certificate isn't a formal qualification or credit, you can use it to demonstrate your interest in learning about this area to potential employers or educational institutions. Please note that, in alignment with Macquarie’s new Learning and Teaching Strategy, a new Professional Learning Framework will be established during 2016. FiLT completion will articulate with the framework and equips you to take up further opportunities to develop your professional capabilities in teaching and curriculum as these are made available.
