Professional Recognition for University Teachers: Why & How

Description:

In this interactive presentation, Dr Beckman will seek participants’ views and inputs as she discusses the importance of professional standards in university teaching as a framework for professional recognition, and the potential benefits of professional recognition for Australian academics. She will also consider the capacity for recognition to increase teaching self-efficacy, and to lead to collaborative intra- and cross-institutional peer engagement and benchmarking.

Since 2013, Beth has led the Australian National University’s Educational Fellowship Scheme, accredited by the Higher Education Academy. Through this scheme, more than 170 academics and learning support professionals at ANU and QUT have already gained internationally validated recognition of their pedagogical knowledge, capabilities, values and experience.
