Macquarie University has a strong history of Eureka Awards success, most recently with Associate Professor Noushin Nasiri named a 2023 finalist for Outstanding Early Career Researcher, and the multi-institutional MetaSteerers Team winning the 2023 Department of Defence Eureka Prize for Outstanding Science in Safeguarding Australia.

Other recent winners from Macquarie University include the 2021 Eureka Prize for Innovation in Citizen Science (awarded to the AUSMAP microplastic assessment project team); the 2020 Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research (awarded to the Social-Ecological Research Frontiers team); the 2019 Eureka Prize for STEM Inclusion (awarded to the National Indigenous Science Education Program (NISEP); and the 2019 Eureka Prize for Environmental Research (awarded to the Blue Carbon Horizons Team).

There are 18 prizes on offer in 2024, covering a range of scientific disciplines across the categories of Research and Innovation, Leadership, Science Engagement and School Science. Winners share a prize pool of $180,000.

The Eureka Prizes recognise the achievements of scientists and science communicators at all career stages. Entries close at 7 pm AEST on Friday, 12 April. Finalists will be announced on Wednesday, 31 July, and winners announced at the Eureka Awards ceremony on Wednesday, 4 September.
