Our areas of study
At Macquarie’s School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, you can study in the fields of:
- Astronomy and astrophysics – explore the science of the cosmos, from planets to galaxies, using our on-campus observatory and big data collections to acquire knowledge and transferable technical and research skills.
- Mathematics and statistics – in the 2019 CareerCast report, four of the top 10 best jobs were statistician, data scientist, operations research analyst and mathematician.
- Physics – our emphasis is on learning through practical experience, which takes place in some of the best-equipped teaching laboratories in Australia.
The science labs at Macquarie, where I do my practical work, are exceptional. They’re industry standard or better, so the equipment I use is exactly what I’ll be using when I enter the workforce.
