Our areas of study

At Macquarie’s School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, you can study in the fields of:

  • Astronomy and astrophysics – explore the science of the cosmos, from planets to galaxies, using our on-campus observatory and big data collections to acquire knowledge and transferable technical and research skills.
  • Mathematics and statistics – in the 2019 CareerCast report, four of the top 10 best jobs were statistician, data scientist, operations research analyst and mathematician.
  • Physics – our emphasis is on learning through practical experience, which takes place in some of the best-equipped teaching laboratories in Australia.
