Record participation in Greek language exams
Macquarie hosts record 125 candidates for 2025 Greek language exams, becoming the largest examination centre in the southern hemisphere.

The School of International Studies has marked a major milestone, hosting a record 125 candidates for the 2025 Certificate of Attainment in Greek language exams, held from 20–22 May. This record level of participation has established the School as the largest examination centre in the southern hemisphere.
Since 2022, Macquarie University has been the only certified Greek language examination centre in New South Wales, officially recognised by the Centre for the Greek Language (CGL) in Greece. The Certificate of Attainment in Greek is the only official certification issued by the Greek Ministry for Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, confirming proficiency in Greek as a foreign or second language across six levels aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It is recognised by all European Union member states and by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Samedh Chirravuri, a 15-year-old student from Trinity Grammar School, sat the A2 level exam in May 2025 and shared his experience:
"In my preparation for the exam, the most challenging part was the fact that I am not Greek and have had to learn Greek as a foreign language, rather than a community language. I look forward to using my Greek studies at university when studying international relations."
