Academy partnerships

The Academy has developed partnerships with both local and international schools, universities and organisations to lead the way in professional development.

At the Academy we work with our partners, in education and business, to create specialised professional development for teachers and educators.

Released in 2021, The Online Learning Design for Educators Specialisation has been created by Macquarie University's top academic staff and designers to assist educators in improving online learning environments and synchronous online classes.

Comprising of three courses;

  1. Online education: The foundations of online teaching.
  2. Create video, audio and infographics for online learning.
  3. Online teaching: Using Zoom to connect with learners

The specialisation provides educators with the tools to feel confident in designing and delivering impactful and engaging online learning experiences.

From the basics on how to set up effective Zoom class to designing and creating a variety of multimodal text types, this Specialisation requires participants to investigate a range of challenges faced when learning in online environments and provides techniques and solutions on how to overcome these challenges to create engaging and impactful online learning environments and synchronous online classes.

This three-part specialisation is open to everyone and is accessible via Coursera.

Macquarie University designed and facilitated 'Remote learning tools, techniques and tips for Federation of Community Languages Teachers', an online course that provided advice and guidelines for community language teachers to deliver courses online.

Comprising of 10 modules, this self-paced course explores how to create safe online spaces, presents a range of online learning tools, and details online language teaching-specific pedagogies and strategies.

Participants were invited to attend three live Zoom webinars which shared tips on using zoom, teaching languages with technology, and a live demonstration on the classroom management system Additio from the CEO & Co-founder, Jordi Corominas.

This training was delivered in 2021 for Federation of Community Languages members.

In 2018/19, the Macquarie University’s School of Education was the lead organisation for developing the IBM Artificial Intelligence (AI) Curriculum Framework. Following consultation with key Australian and international education stakeholders we co-developed the globally relevant IBM Curriculum Framework for students and teachers in primary and secondary schools.

In 2020, as an extension of this work, the Academy in partnership with IBM Australia,  developed a free professional development course for teachers globally. This course is aligned to AITSL ‘Proficient Level’ Australian Professional Standards at AQF Level 8, and is accessible for free via Coursera.

In 2021, Macquarie University partnered with IBM Australia and the Australian Museum for the EdTech Youth Challenge. This applied learning experience saw teams of students and teachers present compelling projects where artificial intelligence (AI)  technology helps solve existing or imminent problems facing society. Congratulations to the winners!
