German is the language of Austria and Germany, and one of the official languages of Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

At Macquarie we offer in-depth study of the language in the context of German-speaking cultures.

Our levels of study

German Studies at Macquarie commences at introductory level and continues to advanced level (Common European Framework of Reference level C1). The language programs are integrated with our areas of research activity. Students can take options that allow interdisciplinary insights into literature, film, theatre, history, politics and linguistics at undergraduate level, with the option to explore these further in the Masters of Research and PhD.

You can enrol in our undergraduate classes or undertake research as part of an MRes or PhD.
