Lincoln Legacy Society

Lincoln Legacy Society

The Lincoln Legacy Society (formerly the Joan and John Lincoln Society) was established by University Council to honour the elder statesmen and women of the University, and in particular those who have made it known they have left a bequest to the University in their will.

Macquarie University Chancellor Hon Michael Egan launched the Society at a special event on October 20, 2009. The Society was named after the late The Hon Dr John Francis Lincoln AM, and his late wife Joan. Dr Lincoln announced at the launch that he was establishing a scholarship fund for Indigenous students and that his bequest would augment that fund.

Lincoln Legacy History

The Bequest Program began with graduate Derek To informing the University in 2008 that he wished to make a bequest to the University.

Derek To

"I made the decision to leave a gift to Macquarie University in my Will, because I wanted to encourage outstanding students to undertake bachelor degrees in accounting, economics and mathematics. Making a gift was a very personal decision for me. It gave me a way to honour my family and to help Australia retain its intellectual talents. I am very pleased that my gift will have a lasting impact on Macquarie's future and make a real difference to future students."

Derek To - Bequestor

Derek To has bequeathed one-third of his estate for the future establishment of three To Family Scholarships.

Lincoln Legacy Society

We would like to acknowledge your generosity by welcoming you to the Lincoln Legacy Society.

Named in honour of Dr John Lincoln and his wife Joan, who were instrumental in the foundation years of Macquarie University.

Dr Lincoln made a long and outstanding contribution to Macquarie, dating back to the committee that established the University, which he chaired from 1958 to 1964. Together, Joan and John organised events for the University, including hosting fundraising gatherings in their family home, and remained involved with the University throughout their lives.

Please become a member of the Lincoln Legacy Society and join others who share your commitment to supporting Macquarie’s pioneering culture of learning, research and discovery.

Lincoln Legacy Society members are warmly invited to attend bespoke events on campus each year. They also receive a special commemorative pin in acknowledgement of their legacy gift.
