Over $250,000 Raised for MND

Oh, what a night! Inspiring speakers and generous donors made the 2019 MND Gala Dinner a huge success.

On 28 June, 450 members of the Macquarie University Hospital MND community gathered at the Four Seasons Hotel for the annual MND Gala Dinner. Every year sees the gala grow bigger and better and this year was no exception. Guests participated in a raffle, silent auction, live auction and other fundraising activities, with all proceeds going toward Motor Neurone Disease Research and Patient Care at Macquarie.

The program of speakers was exceptional. Professor Dominic Rowe presented an overview of the MND Centre, highlighting patient care, research, clinical trials, and therapies as its primary purposes. Special guest speakers generously shared their moving story of IVF treatment to prevent the MND gene from being present in their beautiful children. Additionally, all guests were treated to a  sneak peak of what’s in store for the participants of the upcoming 2019 Firies Climb for MND.

Fantastically, the event raised over $250,000 for this very worthy cause. Popular silent auction prizes included Jervis Bay and Hunter Valley holidays and a Ken Done Original painting, with each drawing contributions of over $3,000. The live auction items included MND lab tours, a purebred Poll Hereford Heifer, and the famous 10-person lunch in Bulga, prepared and served by Professor Dom Rowe. The latter raised an astounding $10,000. Thank you to the generous bidders!

“The funds raised through this year’s Gala will pave the way for continuing development of clinical trials and research, and allow the clinic to continue providing the best care to MND patients,” shares Anne-Marie Dobner, Individual Giving Specialist and gala organiser. “This fight against MND is not over, but the team at Macquarie are working hard to make that happen. We are so grateful for every donation, every volunteer giving up their time and every person that holds their own fundraiser. We are humbled and inspired by you every day, and you have our sincere and heartfelt thanks.”
