MND Gala fundraiser raises $200,000
On Friday 15th June the MND community joined Professor Dom Rowe and the MND Research team at Doltone House, Darling Island Wharf on Sydney Harbour, for what is becoming one of the biggest nights on the MND Community calendar.
The event was dedicated to raising funds to support people living with MND as well as helping to find a cure. The nearly $200,000 raised ($50,000 above our target) will provide much-needed support to patients seeking treatment at Macquarie Neurology as well as the research labs working to find a cure.
The evening was a celebration of our many achievements, bringing together 269 donors, patients, supporters and staff for a night full of camaraderie, generosity and good will.
Fundraising activities included a live auction, a silent auction, a raffle ticket sales and draw, lucky key draw, lucky door prizes, and entertainment by a roving magician, a jazz trio and a DJ and dance floor at the end of the night.
Speakers included Professor Dom Rowe and Professor Roger Chung from Macquarie University, who gave heartening updates on their latest research; and Lucy Schumack and David Farmer from Jindabyne Fire & Rescue, who shared their Firies Climb for MND story.
Auctioneer Jason Kazanis from Under the Hammer showed off his skill, selling an MND lab tour for $4,000 and then selling the opposing bidder another tour for $4,000! Also in the live auction winnings was the popular Brunch in Bulga – lunch for up to 10 people prepared by Dom Rowe at his country house.
Other auction prizes included holidays, paintings, dining vouchers, jewellery and pamper packs.
