Changing the world - one mind at a time
This year our tax appeal raised around $42,000 thanks to the generosity of over 300 supporters. The Mind Appeal presented alumni and friends with four compelling causes to support.
“We had fantastic feedback on the appeal this year,” said Maura Brookes, Annual Giving Manager. “Initially we were hesitant about presenting multiple cases to recipients as we didn’t want to muddle the message, but we were so encouraged when alumni and supporters started making gifts to sometimes not one, but all four of the funds presented.”
“It is evident that our alumni are interested in supporting important research around issues that affect mental health,” said Maura. “Not only are they donating to funds like the Music, Mind and Movement Fund (Dementia) and the MindSpot Support Fund, they are also attending events which address these subjects. For example, our recent Alumni event at the Art Gallery of NSW with the topic Making a Difference to Dementia “sold out” in one hour. We had to increase the capacity because of the demand.”
Thanks to continued support by alumni and friends of the Macquarie University Reading Clinic, assessment and treatment scholarships have already been awarded to children who have difficulty reading, like Cooper.
Cooper’s mother recently spoke to us about the difference receiving the scholarship has made to both their lives.
“Personally, I felt humbled and honoured when I first heard the wonderful news that Cooper would have this amazing opportunity through Macquarie. It's been a long hard road with Cooper's learning and to be granted some reprieve made my day. Cooper is very chuffed and excited to have the opportunity as he is so eager to learn. We can't thank you enough.”
Thank you also to supporters of the Incubator for providing socially conscious start-ups an opportunity to develop and launch their ideas – potentially resulting in introducing unprecedented change for the better.
