Language learning and teaching research
Macquarie University has a tradition of Applied Linguistics research on language learning and teaching that dates back to the 1980s. We are an enthusiastic team of researchers working in areas including:
- Adult migrant English language education
- Autonomy and out-of-class learning
- Language testing: validity and impact on academic and professional contexts
- Language teacher cognition and professional development
- Classroom interaction and dialogic language teaching and learning
- Pragmatics, discourse analysis and language teaching
- Language learning, technology and new digital media
TESOL provides the context for much of our research, which also connects with research on Academic and Professional Discourse, Multilingualism and Intercultural Communication, and Multiliteracies and Multimodality.
