Daniel Kane

Professor Daniel Kane is the Head of The Chinese Studies at Macquarie University. He graduated from the University of Melbourne (BA Hons) in 1971 and the Australian National University (PhD 1975, MA -Asian Studies- 1976). In 1975 Prof Kane joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and was posted to the Australian Embassy in Beijing in the following year. He returned to Australia to take up a lectureship in Chinese at the University of Melbourne in 1981. He was visiting scholar at the Department of Chinese at Peking University in 1988 and 1993, and Cultural Counsellor at the Australian Embassy in Beijing in 1996. He took up the Chair of Chinese at Macquarie in 1997.

Research interests:

Professor Kane has broad interests in the field of Chinese Studies, including linguistics, politics, intellectual history and current affairs.
