Special interests: nineteenth-century British literature, nineteenth and twentieth-century Australian literature,feminist theory,literary biography,gay and lesbian theory, and Virginia Woolf.
Selected Publications
In 1998 her book on the nineteenth-century British poet Caroline Bowles Southey was published. In 1999 with Isobel Armstrong from the University of London, she edited two volumes of essays: Women's Poetry in the Enlightenment: the making of a canon 1730-1820 and Women's Poetry, Late Romantic to Late Victorian: gender and genre 1830-1900. Her volume in the Longman Annotated Texts series, Victorian Women Poets a new annotated anthology, appeared in 2001. She was one of the three editors of the Feminist Companion to Literature and is currently one of the section editors of the new Dictionary of National Biography.
