Two ways to park — the choice is yours

Current students at Macquarie University pay student rates to park on campus using our digital parking management system.

There are two ways to pay for parking on campus:

  • virtual permit (vPermit)
  • pay as you go (PAYG).

Both options do not require tickets or display permits. We use licence plate recognition technology to identify if parking has been paid.

Please register for just one of the above options.

Consider the following before deciding which will work best for you:

  • your budget
  • how often you drive to university
  • how many hours you intend to park on campus
  • the length of your study period
  • your preferred general parking zone for the day
  • motorcycle and motor scooter parking is free in designated, signposted areas within campus carparks.

Current students are those enrolled in an active study module, not one that starts in the future. Check your enrolment status to avoid being charged the visitor rate.

2024 parking rates and registration

To purchase a vPermit, head online and register via a secure portal. Once registered, your licence plate is proof of payment for the term of the vPermit.

Purchase of a vPermit does not guarantee a parking space in a campus carpark (except Reserved East 3).

To register for a vPermit you will need:

  • your Macquarie University student OneID eg 11112222
  • your Macquarie University student email address eg firstname.surname@students.mq.edu.au
  • your credit or debit card details (for vPermits of less than six months)
  • your car licence plate number/s. You can register multiple vehicles on an account, but you must select the ‘active’ vehicle on your account. The system does not automatically recognise which car you are driving. Learn how to switch licence plate numbers on vPermit.

Once you have started the registration process you must complete it, or the session will time out and you will have to start again.

PAYG charges an hourly rate and is self-managed using an app on a device, or online. You can also scan the QR code or call the phone number on signage within each PAYG carpark.

First you'll need to register with our supplier, CellOPark, to start a parking session at Macquarie University. When exiting a campus carpark, use the app or go online to end a parking session.

To register for PAYG you will need:

  • Your MQ OneID.
  • You must be enrolled in a current study module (not one that starts in the future) otherwise the visitor rate will apply (no refunds are given in this situation).
  • A credit or debit card.
  • Your car licence plate number/s: multiple vehicles can be registered on one account. Remember to select the 'active' vehicle you are driving on the day via your account.
