Embed information and digital literacy skills into your course

Help your students develop the critical skills to achieve their academic goals, as well as become informed citizens and life-long learners.

A student’s ability to find, use, critically analyse, manage, create, and disseminate information is a crucial skill, and the Library Information and Digital Literacy Framework (2023) outlines Waranara Library’s approach to, and support for, this skill development with an accompanying skills matrix providing key capabilities we recommend for different levels of study.

To assist in the development of these skills for students, Waranara Library also has a range of online tools that you can embed at the point of need, including:

  • Subject resource guides, research and referencing guides - including a guide to help students use MultiSearch, the Library’s search platform.
  • Short online courses on a wide range of professional, technical and digital skills via Udemy and other skills-based learning platforms.
  • StudyWISE resources to help students understand the research process and other academic skills. These are available to all students within iLearn. Simply link to sections most relevant to your unit’s learning needs.
  • Custom and ready-to-go learning objects that can be embedded into your unit – including videos, short interactive tutorials and lesson plans. See examples in the Library Learning Showcase (Macquarie staff only).

Your Faculty or Clinical Librarian can work with you to identify the information needs of your students, including:

  • how to incorporate and scaffold relevant, tailored information and digital literacy, and online learning resources into your unit or course.
  • identifying key discipline databases and information resources to support the learning outcomes of your unit or course, including for new curriculum.
