Using copyright material in ChatMQ
What you need to know about copyright when using Macquarie's ChatMQ.
You may use limited amounts of other people's material on ChatMQ without having to seek the permission of the copyright owner. This is permitted under an exception in copyright law known as fair dealing for research or study.
To rely on fair dealing, the use of the material must be "fair". This is determined largely by the amount of material you have copied.
When using other people's material on ChatMQ, you should only use a "reasonable portion". This usually means:
- 10 per cent of a work or,
- one chapter from a book.
In some cases, you may use more than this depending on the circumstances and in very rare cases, fair dealing will allow for the whole work to be copied.
As a general rule, use as little as possible and only what is absolutely necessary for your fair dealing purpose.
