Use your Macquarie email when publishing in a journal under a Publish and Read agreement

Macquarie University subscribes to a number of Publish and Read Agreements covering hundreds of journals. These agreements support Macquarie authors to publish Open Access, without having to pay the Article Processing Charge (APC) so can save authors thousands of dollars. However this does require verification.

  • Always use your Macquarie email (@mq.edu.au) as the corresponding author email when submitting to any journal covered by a Publish and Read agreement.
  • Check before submission. Authors can confirm whether a journal is covered by an agreement through the Waranara Library's current Publish & Read Agreements, or by contacting your Faculty or Clinical Librarian.

Publishers use a range of methods to validate whether a corresponding author is affiliated with an eligible institution. Some rely on the author's email domain as a key part of that check. Others use affiliation text, institutional authentication, or a combination of approaches. The methods vary from publisher to publisher and authors generally won't know which process applies until they are partway through a submission. The easiest and simplest thing to do in order to ensure a smooth and seamless process, is to just use your Macquarie email address.
