New Reader for Offline Access to EBSCO eBooks

Thorium Reader gives EBSCO users an improved, user‑friendly experience when reading downloaded eBooks.

From 14 April 2026, EBSCO will introduce Thorium Reader as its new option for offline eBook access. Thorium Reader replaces Adobe Digital Editions and offers a more accessible, intuitive experience for reading downloaded eBooks on your device.

There will be no change to how you search for or access EBSCO eBooks. Online reading is unaffected, and you can continue to read eBooks directly in your browser without installing additional software.

Key features of Thorium Reader

  • In‑book search
  • Light and dark display modes
  • Note‑taking, highlighting and bookmarking
  • Text‑to‑speech support
  • Customisable display settings
  • A reading progress indicator
  • Support for both LCP‑DRM‑encrypted and DRM‑free eBooks from multiple providers

What you need to do from 14 April 2026

  • If you read EBSCO eBooks online only, no action is required.
  • If you download EBSCO eBooks for offline reading, you will need to:
    • Install Thorium Reader on your device
    • Open and read your downloaded EBSCO eBooks using Thorium Reader

For step‑by‑step instructions, see the Thorium Reader guide.
