New ebook reading app for Ebook Central
ProQuest’s Ebook Central Reader App replaces Adobe Digital Editions for reading downloaded ebooks.
From 16 July 2026, ProQuest will introduce the Ebook Central Reader app (EBC) as its new option for offline ebook access on its Ebook Central platform. It replaces Adobe Digital Editions as the primary offline reading solution, offering a streamlined, secure, and accessible experience for students and researchers.
The app supports EPUB and PDF formats, allows users to manage their loans and devices, and is available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
Online reading is unaffected, and you can continue to read ebooks directly in your browser without installing additional software.

What you need to do from 16 July 2026
- If you read ebooks online only, no action is required.
- If you download ebooks for offline reading, you will need to:
- Install the EBC Reader App on your device
- Open and read your downloaded ebooks using EBC Reader
