About the workshop

This course will provide learners with an overview of cognitive models of reading and working memory. It will review working memory interventions, including the role of working memory training in treating reading difficulties. Finally, it will review the implications of poor working memory in the classroom and clinical practice, and how these difficulties may be supported.

The workshop videos will cover the following:

  • Fundamental theoretical background, including the Dual Route Model of reading and Baddeley’s working memory model;
  • A review of the literature in the area to date, which will provide learners with a deeper understanding of the relationship between working memory and reading difficulties;
  • A practical overview of how to recognise working memory difficulties, including formal assessment options; and
  • An exploration of methods to support working memory difficulties in the classroom and clinical practice.
