Student parking

Student parking

Current students at Macquarie University pay student rates to park on campus using our digital parking management system. There are two ways to pay for parking at Uni – Pay As You Go (PAYG) or vPermit.

The choice is yours

With either option (please register for just one), there are no tickets or display permits, a licence plate is all that’s needed to identify whether you’ve paid for parking. There is no need to register for both PAYG and vPermit, so please take a moment to consider the following before deciding which one works best for you:

  • your budget
  • how often you drive to Uni, how many hours you park on campus
  • length of study period
  • your preferred General Parking Zone - park in the best zone for you on the day
  • motorcycle and motor scooter parking is free in designated, signposted areas within campus carparks

Current students are those enrolled in an active study module. To avoid being charged the visitor rate, please check your enrolment status.

Student PAYG rates and registration

PAYG charges an hourly rate and is self-managed using an app on a device, or online. You can also scan the QR code or call the phone number on signage within each PAYG carpark. First you'll need to register with our supplier, CellOpark, to start a parking session at Macquarie University. When exiting a campus carpark, use the app or go online to end a parking session.

What do I need to register for PAYG?

  • new student PAYG rates start 1 Jan 2020
  • your MQ OneID
  • you must be enrolled in a current study module (not one that starts in the future) otherwise the visitor rate will apply (no refunds are given in this situation).
  • a credit or debit card
  • your car licence plate number/s: multiple vehicles can be registered on one account. Remember to select the 'active' vehicle you are driving on the day via your account.

Student vPermit rates and registration

vPermit (virtual permit) is an alternative to PAYG (by the hour). Purchasing a vPermit is done online via a secure portal. Once registered, your licence plate is proof of payment for the term of the vPermit. Purchase of a vPermit does not guarantee a parking space in a campus carpark (except Reserved East 3).

In 2020, vPermits are available for a maximum of twelve months (1 January to 31 December). The cost is pro-rata from 1 January 2020. Students can purchase a vPermit at any time during the year however the expiry will remain as 31 December.

NOTE: A $50.00 administration fee will be deducted from any refund owed when processing student vPermit cancellations.

What do I need to register for vPermit?

  • your student MQ OneID
  • DO NOT abandon the registration process part-way through, the session will time out
  • MQ student EMAIL address (not Hotmail or Gmail)
  • enrolment in a current study module (not one that starts in the future)
  • a credit or debit card
  • your car licence plate number/s: multiple vehicles can be registered on one account. Remember to select the 'active' vehicle you are driving on the day via your account.
