Gender and Sexuality Centre
The QueerSpace is a service provided by Macquarie University for all staff and students who identify as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and/or Queer (GLBTIQ), as well as their Straight Allies. It is designed to foster a sense of community, provide vital information and resources, as well as facilitate a space for discussion and personal development.
It is a safe space on campus to hang out, access resources, or relax. Most importantly, it is a space for all of its users to feel welcome, safe and comfortable. QueerSpace is located on level 3, 18 Wally's Walk (C7A) MAZE.
The Ally Network
Macquarie University's Ally Network is a visible group of informed staff and students who support sexual and gender diversity and promote a safe campus where people who identify (or who are questioning) as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and/or Queer (GLBTIQ) can work and study free from unlawful discrimination, harassment or bullying.
An Ally is a staff member or student on campus who, through attending professional development, is aware of the issues faced by members of the GLBTIQ community. Allies become a point of contact on campus for anyone interested or affected by these issues, as well as an agent of change who challenges homophobia and heterosexism.
The MQ Ally Network is coordinated through the Equity and Diversity Unit. For more information, contact the Ally Network.
The Macquarie University Queer Collective is an officially affiliated student group which is open to staff and students who identify as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and/or Queer (GLBTIQ), as well as their Straight Allies. While the QueerSpace provides a physical room for people to get together, the Queer Collective is the social group that organises events and brings people together to create a sense of community.
The Queer Collective has an official Facebook group which is a way to meet other people, keep in contact and get information about upcoming events. In order to protect the anonymity of its members, the Facebook group is set to private. To gain access to the Facebook group, or to contact the Queer Collective, please send an email to email@example.com.
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about the Queer Space, please contact Campus Engagement on (02) 9850 6901, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the room on Level 3, 18 Wally's Walk (C7A) MAZE.
