Choose from 110 Group Fitness classes to keep you feeling fit and healthy.


Group Fitness offers a range of classes of varying intensity levels, impact, speed, and choreography; all designed to maximise fun, while exercising with a group of friends and friends-to-be. Here at Macquarie University Sport we offer two types of Group Fitness; the traditional instructor-led classes, of which there are 110 each week, and Virtual Group Fitness, for those people who can’t make the classes in the timetable, desire a little privacy with their Group Fitness, or wish to make their own personal booking.

Group Fitness at Macquarie University Sport is an inclusion of membership and does not involve any additional costs. Our classes are delivered by qualified instructors across a variety of different trained disciplines. Interested in knowing who is leading your class? Check out their profile here.

Bookings are required for Group Fitness classes and can be done via the Members' online portal, WarriorWeb, or at the front desk.

You'll notice the following updates:

  • A new style of Yoga on offer -YIN YOGA on Wednesdays at 1:05pm and Friday at 7pm. For your comfort during this class we recommend you bring your own pillow and towel.
  • Please note for all Mind/Body classes (Yoga, Pilates, BodyBalance) we recommend bringing your own yoga mat for hygiene and comfort.

Group Fitness & Virtual Group Fitness Classes


Abdominals, Butts & Thighs, an intense low impact toning class targeting your core, legs and glutes. Individually choreographed each week by your instructor, the techniques used in this class are derived from various modes of training such as Pilates, circuit training, resistance training and traditional sculpting exercises. Entry-level participants are welcome, as there is no running or jumping in this class. The class may involve the use of dumbbells, barbells, step platforms, Swiss balls, resistance bands and body-weight training.

Aqua Fitness Class

Incorporates a fusion of aerobics training, toning and conditioning challenges – no swimming skills required! Participants experience a low to moderate intensity cardiovascular workout and use a variety of aqua tools such as pool noodles, kickboards and water dumbbells for resistance training. The class is suitable for anyone - as long as you are comfortable in water that is about chest to waist deep! Held in the 25m indoor heated pool in winter and outside in the 50m pool during Summer.

BARRE®LES MILLS BARRE is a 45 minute ballet inspired style of training that works to shape and tone your whole body. We begin with a warm-up followed by a sequence of cardio-esque training, building to a cardio peak. You'll love the group dynamic that's at the heart of BodyAttack®, the sports-inspired cardio workout for building stamina and improving your speed, agility, fitness and strength. This high-energy interval training class combines athletic aerobic pursuits with sports drills, strength and stabilization exercises. Dynamic instructors and powerful music will motivate everyone towards their fitness goals - from the weekend athlete to the hard-core competitor! A new BodyAttack® class is released every three months with new music and choreography ­– just in case you're not fit enough already!

A fusion of yoga, tai chi, and Pilates style workout routines set to music. BodyBalance® builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centred and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance. A new BodyBalance® class is released every three months with new music and choreography.

The empowering cardio workout where you are totally unleashed. This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai. Supported by driving music and powerful role model instructors, you strike, punch, kick and kata your way through calories to superior cardio fitness. Expect to tone and shape your muscles, improve your coordination and agility and burn loads of calories! A new BodyCombat® class is produced every three months with new music and choreography to keep you inspired (and perspired)!

The original barbell class designed to improve strength and endurance in your major muscle groups. You can burn up to 560 calories per class. BodyPump® strengthens and tones your entire body by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, bench press, and bicep curls performed to motivating music. A new BodyPump® class is released every three months with new music and choreography to keep you inspired and challenged.

The ultimate butt and thigh workout. It is the energizing step workout that makes you feel liberated and alive. BodyStep® caters to all fitness levels and you can increase or decrease the intensity of your workout by adjusting the height of your step platform. Performing simple movements on, around and over your step you'll be buzzing from the fun pop music! Each of the tracks in a BodyStep® class has a specific exercise focus, for example, the athletic blocks push fat burning systems into high gear and 'flava' tracks will have you grooving away. Together they create an energizing interval style workout. A new BodyStep® class is released every three months with new music and choreography.


A 30-minute workout which is based on cutting-edge scientific research. This program is the ultimate way to get a tight and toned core. With dynamic training that hones in on your abs, glutes, back, obliques and "slings" connecting the upper and lower body. This workout will leave you looking good and feeling strong.

Moderate - HighEasyLowLow

An indoor riding experience – no coordination required! Your cycle instructor will lead you through a series of self-choreographed rides to inspirational music, incorporating fitness and strength drills as you move through different riding positions, intensities and speeds. Cycle will improve your cardio fitness, burn a stack of calories and sculpt you a set of perfect legs. Anyone can participate and benefit from participating in this class and you may work at your own pace – or the instructor’s. For new participants, please arrive 5-10 minutes early so your instructor can demonstrate how to safely set up your bike so you may ride comfortably.

Fit 4 Life

Perfect for seniors and for entry-level participants just returning to the fitness scene. You will move through a variety of simple cardio and resistance exercises designed to increase muscular strength, improve your range of movement and coordination for daily living. Hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles and Swiss balls may be offered for resistance and chairs may be used for seated and/or standing support.

Hatha Yoga

Focuses on asanas (postures) which enhance a healthy spine, improve digestion and can relieve effects of chronic stress, bringing the mind to a focused state to bring harmony into your daily life. This class is predominantly slow-paced and gentle and provides a good introduction to basic Yoga poses which aid to strengthen the body, improve flexibility, and calm your mind.

Iyengar Yoga

A style of yoga most concerned with body alignment, correct posture and awareness. Iyengar yoga is uniquely characterized by the performance of postures and breath practice with a strong emphasis on precision and alignment, planned sequencing, timing and the use of props. Asanas (postures) are held for varying amounts of time with benefits for participants of any age and level of fitness – the ability to face the physical, mental and emotional challenges of contemporary life with strength, vitality, mobility, thoughtfulness and composure.

A workout designed to optimize your muscle strength, flexibility and endurance. Pilates classes encompass a total body conditioning method that simultaneously strengthens and stretches your entire body. Pilates will help you increase your abdominal, hip and back strength, improve your posture and help reduce daily stress and tension. Make sure you reserve your place early – these classes fill up fast.

A pre-choreographed indoor cycling workout where you will ride to the rhythm of powerful music. Take on the terrain with an inspiring team coach who leads the pack through hills, flats, mountain peaks, time trials and interval training. Set your own pace or discover the athlete within and reach your endorphin high. For new participants, please arrive five to ten minutes early so your instructor can demonstrate how to safely set up your bike so you may ride at ease. A new RPM® class is released every three months with new music and choreography.

Street Salsa

Beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers and non dancers welcome. You'll learn all the basic moves of Salsa and by the end of the class you'll be performing a street salsa routine with your fellow dancers. Single or with a partner, Street Salsa is a modern twist of your traditional Latin inspired dancing.Low -MediumEasy-IntermediateLowLow

A physical workout which incorporates boxing and aerobic drills based on the training methods boxers engage in to stay super fit. The workout does not involve actually hitting anyone (or being hit). A typical class will involve hitting pads, punching bags, skipping, push ups, sit ups and sprints. This class offers people with little to no boxing skill to experience the benefits from the fitness the sport can bring.  You will be educated on punching techniques and footwork and improve your punching power, hand-eye coordination, cardiovascular fitness, and leave feeling powerful.

Tai Chi

A series of uninterrupted, smooth, relaxed, flowing movements that promote health benefits for anyone, leading to a harmonious balance of mind, body, emotion and spirit. Not only is tai chi a fantastic mode of exercise, it generates and circulates vital energy, or chi, around the body by following specific principles of movement, posture and breathing. Tai chi improves circulation, boosts immune functioning, and increases vitality, while improving muscle tension, flexibility and improving coordination and balance.

Vinyasa Yoga

A flowing style of yoga that links the movement to the breath. Poses run together smoothly to create a dynamic seamless moving meditation. Vinyasa yoga includes sun salutations, alignment focused strengthening and stretching poses and finishes with a refreshing relaxation. Vinyasa is an energetic and motivational way to cultivate self-awareness and a healthy body and mind.

Yin YogaPerfect for beginners and advanced Yogis alike, a Yin practice involves holding poses for 3-6 minutes at a time to challenge and enhance the physical body and the mind. By deeply connecting to breath Yin works with the meridian lines of the body accessing connective tissue (fascia) to give stress relieving and flexibility benefits. LowEasyLowSlow

Dance like nobody is watching – or like everybody is watching! Ditch the workout and join the party! This dance fitness class is the latest and greatest craze, which works every muscle in your body. Zumba® classes include several dance styles such as salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, belly dance, samba and hip-hop. Zumba® is easy to follow, fun and effective – and it is our most popular program so be sure to book early.

Zumba Sentao®

Perfect for people who want to get some serious (core) work done. Pull up a chair and tone your entire body. Zumba Sentao® combines strength and resistance training with innovative dance moves, using a chair as your dance partner. A high intensity workout that focuses on defining your muscles, improving overall cardiovascular health and burning major calories. A unique way to challenge the muscles of your body.

Zumba ToningThe challenge of adding resistance by using Zumba®Toning Sticks (or light weights), helps you focus on specific muscle groups, so you (and your muscles) stay engaged! Virtual Les Mills Classes

Les Mills BODYPUMP™, CXWORX™, BODYCOMBAT™, BODYBALANCE™, SH’BAM™ are all presented by world class international Master Trainers. These programs are pre-choreographed to fun and inspiring music and moves. Ideal for anyone looking to try Group Fitness classes for the first time and integrate to live classes with one of our highly experienced Group Fitness Instructors.

Virtual Power Step

An energizing workout that uses a height-adjustable step and simple movements on, over and around the step. Cardio blocks push fat burning systems into high gear followed by muscle conditioning tracks that shape and tone your body.

Virtual Fitness on Demand

Fitness On Demand timeslots allow you to select a workout of your choice from over 200 Virtual classes available, offering you more diversity. Book the timeslot online or at the front desk and select a class from the iPad kiosk outside the Courtyard Studio.

How to Book Your Group Fitness Class:

Bookings can be made via the WarriorWeb Members' Portal or at the front desk of the centre with a Member Engagement Officer.

Bookings can only be made prior to the commencement of the class. They open 2-days prior to the scheduled class and close 5-minutes after the start time. If you wish to make a booking to a class that has already commenced, you will be unable to.

Tickets must be collected from reception and brought to the session before you enter.

First timer? Arrive at least 5-minutes prior to the commencement of the class to introduce yourself to the trainer so they can set you up and guide you through the workout.
