Light Paper Festival

A collaborative inaugural project of Macquarie University Museums & Collections. Join us to make your mark at the University Art Gallery.

This festival will feature a full day events.

Handmade Paper Make Workshop

10am – 1pm
Presented by artist Nathalie Hartog-Gautier

Experiment with handmade paper using a range of techniques including embossing, casting, paint and ink to create your own work.

Field Notes of Pioneering Minds Exhibition

Biologists still use paper in the field and in the laboratory in the conceptualisation of their ideas and findings. This exhibition will provide a unique selection of field notes rarely seen on public display by both emerging and leading academics from Macquarie University.

Australian Paper and Conservation Issues

Roman Forum Exhibition

10am – 2pm

A unique collection comprising a series of historical master engraved prints dating from the 15th through to the 20th century which documents the changing landscape of the Roman Forum. It presents an expanded view of the Roman Forum and its activities over time from the socio-political to everyday life. This collection has been kindly donated to Macquarie University by Lynette Jensen.

Paula Dawson Hologram Tours 2015

13 February – 11 December 2015, 1pm

Join Macquarie University Art Gallery's Hologram Tour to see Paula Dawson's "To Absent Friends," one of the world's largest holograms ever produced.

In 2009 Macquarie University Art Gallery in partnership with Newcastle Region Art Gallery and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Macquarie University produced a major exhibition Virtual Encounters: Paula Dawson - Holograms highlighting the work of internationally acclaimed hologram artist Paula Dawson. Dawson's holograms, rarely seen on public display, offer the broader community a unique opportunity to engage with the symbiotic relationship between art, virtual reality and science.
