Providing support to our students from equity groups

Our LEAP Through program is aimed at increasing student participation with mentoring, various support activities and transition programs.

Macquarie University has a range of support services available to students from equity groups, to improve their academic performance and maximise their potential for success.

LEAP Through initiatives provide access to networks and opportunities that promote positive learning experiences through participation and by building student confidence and capacity – fostering a sense of belonging to the University learning community.

Financial Needs Grant

Financial hardship is a major barrier for students from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds accessing education, especially for those students who do not have work rights in Australia.

In order to alleviate some of the financial stresses, the Widening Participation Unit (WPU) established the Financial Needs Grant. Through fundraising projects such as The Sweetest Memory cookbook, WPU can offer students from humanitarian backgrounds one-off grants to the value of $1000 to assist with costs associated with studies.
