Macquarie University is committed to sustainability

We have developed a vibrant and sustainable campus by understanding the impact of our actions and making informed decisions around sustainable practices.

"Macquarie University adheres firmly to our commitment to the principles of sustainability in all we do." Our University: A Framing of Futures, 2013.

Priority 6: "developing a vibrant and sustainable campus, clearly at the centre of a rapidly changing neighbourhood in the international, cosmopolitan city of Sydney."

This commitment includes:

  • undertaking research to solve and address global challenges
  • ensuring students are able to contribute to an environmentally healthy and equitable society
  • reducing our negative impact on our society and environment
  • responsible consumption of energy, water, food, products and transport
  • actively supporting our local community and region.

At Macquarie University, our understanding of sustainability is aligned with the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are 17 interlinked goals designed as "a global blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all".
