Signing up for a clinical trial

Clinical trials are research investigations in which people volunteer to try new treatments, interventions or tests as a means to prevent, detect, treat or manage various diseases or medical conditions. Clinical trials are considered to be part of best practice medicine and are one of many options for treatment of a disease or illness.

Here at Macquarie University CTU we undertake clinical trials for a wide range of conditions including cancer, cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrinology and neurological conditions. These clinical trials will investigate the use of new drug therapies and medical devices as well as finding out better ways to use treatments that are already approved.

If you decide to be involved in a clinical trial, you will receive individualised treatment, observation and monitoring from our highly skilled nurses and specialists. Each patient is cared for by a clinical trial coordinator who closely monitors them throughout their journey to ensure they are safe and provide a central point of contact to provide assistance, support, follow up and long term care.

If you wish to participate in a clinical trial it is important to speak with your treating specialist or GP to see if there are current trials for which you are suitable.
