12 Wally’s Walk

The 12 Wally’s Walk project for the Faculty of Science and Engineering included the refurbishment, life-cycle upgrade and complete fit-out of existing eight levels of the old E7A building. It also included an upward expansion to create a ninth level and an outward expansion with a glazed atrium between the old E7A and E7B buildings that houses a new coffee spot and student administration area.

Maintaining its commitment to sustainable design and construction, we implemented an adaptive re-use of existing structures as well as:

  • Zero energy thermal chimneys to assist atrium air flow
  • Solar panel system to supplement electrical supply
  • Underfloor heating in the atrium to reduce space heating requirements
  • Natural ventilation of the atrium when weather permits
  • High performance, low-E glazing

The building officially opened on 7 June 2017 and now houses the following departments from the Faculty of Science and Engineering:

  • Environment and geography
  • Earth and planetary sciences
  • Mathematics and statistics
  • ARC core to crust fluid systems
  • Risk frontiers
  • Science administration groups
