The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences is home to the University’s cross-disciplinary activities in the broad area of health and human sciences and practice.

The faculty comprises the:

• Macquarie Medical School
• School of Psychological Sciences
• School of Health Sciences and Nursing
• Department of Chiropractic
• Department of Linguistics
• Australian Institute of Health Innovation.

We offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and educate about 20 per cent of the University’s coursework students.

The faculty employs more than 515 staff and operates a budget of more than $185 million.

Our research strengths are:

• clinical sciences, especially cancer, clinical trials
• health systems, patient safety, health informatics and public health
• musculoskeletal sciences and physiotherapy
• neurosciences and human sciences, including:
  • clinical neurodegenerative diseases
  • experimental neurobiology
  • psychology
  • cognitive sciences
  • hearing, language and communication sciences.

• Act as a senior member of the Faculty Executive Group, coordinating agendas, contributing to strategic planning, and advising on ongoing development and improvement in response to internal and external change.
• Strengthen a cohesive, integrated academic health sciences culture by modelling expected behaviours, building strong connections, enabling clear and timely communication, and removing barriers between the academic and clinical missions of Macquarie University Health.
• In partnership with the Executive Dean, lead the development and delivery of the faculty’s operating model and service strategies, ensuring alignment to strategic goals and establishing robust monitoring and evaluation of performance.
• Provide leadership and expert advice to ensure efficient faculty operations and administration, including:
  • workforce planning
  • people and resource management
  • student and education services
  • marketing and alumni relations
  • facilities management.

• Oversee the faculty budget, critically analyse financial performance, and use insights to guide decisions on resource distribution, infrastructure allocation and investment priorities.
• Lead the design and implementation of processes, projects and initiatives that drive continuous service improvement across the faculty, while contributing to the University’s broader policy, planning and governance frameworks.
• Build and maintain effective internal partnerships on behalf of the faculty, collaborating with other faculties, Macquarie University Health clinical services, and central University portfolios to deliver high-quality, efficient services and practical solutions to operational needs.
• Manage key external relationships, including healthcare partners supporting student clinical placements and industry collaborators engaged in research partnerships.
• Lead, coach and develop a diverse, high-performing team, fostering capability, accountability and a strong service culture.
• Contribute strategic and operational support to enhance the work of the:
  • faculty’s two Deputy Deans
  • heads of schools, departments and institutes.

• Postgraduate qualifications at masters level or above, or equivalent demonstrated senior executive leadership experience in relevant contexts.
• Proven senior executive leadership experience in a complex or matrixed organisation with a track record of delivering results through influence.
• Sufficient understanding of health systems, clinical environments and health services to engage meaningfully with clinical leaders, health service leaders and external health system partners.
• Strong commercial and financial management skills, including oversight of large-scale budgets, investment decision-making and strategic resource allocation
• Demonstrated ability to develop and lead high-performing professional services teams and foster a culture of service, excellence and inclusion.

• Superior stakeholder engagement and interpersonal, influencing and communication capabilities to navigate diverse and complex stakeholder environments.
• A track record of collaboration and consultation, staff engagement and leading change.
• Experience and deep understanding of key strategic issues, opportunities and challenges in the higher education sector.

Desirable

• Experience of leadership within an academic health context, medical research institute or healthcare facility.
