At its meeting of 30 November 2021, Academic Senate approved and adopted the following statement on its commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (Resolution AS21/121):

Academic Senate is welcoming and supportive of all staff and students regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic and cultural background, disability, age, family/carer responsibilities, political ideology, and religious belief.

We are committed to fostering a genuinely inclusive culture, reflecting the University's commitment to principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. We recognise these principles as central to our leadership on academic activities of scholarship, learning and teaching, research and research training, and that the effectiveness of Academic Senate in this capacity is enhanced by the diversity of the University community.

We commit to promoting these values within Academic Senate, as part of a culture of ongoing monitoring and review and evolution.

We will demonstrate our commitment to these values in practice by:

• regularly reviewing our membership, nominations, and elections processes for diversity, with the option of co-opting additional members to Academic Senate and its committees to bring diverse perspectives;
• ensuring all members are treated equally and are able to contribute fully to the work of Academic Senate;
• ensuring that consultation, preparation, and communication on Academic Senate matters take into account diversity and inclusion; and
• evolving our processes in response to best practice in equity, diversity, and inclusion in academic governance in universities around the world.
