Ms Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group
We have many projects and innovations on our radar, and one of those is the need to shift the mind set of Indians from one focussed on illness, to more of a health and wellness focus.
Healthcare in India has hitherto been about treating illnesses, and we excel at that. What needs to come next is a reduction of that burden of disease on India. For example, sixty per cent of our cancer patients come to us at stage three and four, and eighty per cent of our cardiac patients come to us with three, four or five vessel blockages. We want to see patients when the treatment is easy, affordable, and when we can send them home the next day to their families. This may seem like a simple idea, but so much of it is dependent on shifting the mind set through screenings, awareness, detection and early treatment. But we don’t want to just do this within the health sector; we want to educate and empower individuals with the knowledge to put their own health front-and-centre. This is truly the space where we can change more lives than ever before.”
