Title: Observation of teacher scaffolding behaviours - Quantitative analysis of teacher support patterns and corresponding student benefits

Professor Jens Siemon, University of Hamburg

In this talk, Professor Siemon will present new results on the video-based observation of teachers’ behaviour while students work in groups or dyads. Different types of teacher practices based on identified patterns of classroom behaviour will be presented. First results on students benefit from support activities show that only some supportive strategies are useful while others might be disturbing.

Professor Jens Siemon holds a Chair for Education at Universit├Ąt Hamburg and is the Head of the Institute for Vocational and Business Education. His research interests lie in the fields of learning and instruction, especially with regard to lesson and video analysis, game-based learning, the transition from secondary to vocational training and work, and the role of vocational education in a knowledge-based society.
