Dean's International Women's Day message

The Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics has encouraged his colleagues – academic, professional, and sessional – to support the University's Workplace Gender Equity Strategy

Dear Colleagues,

Tomorrow, International Women's Day, the University will publish its Workplace Gender Equity Strategy. To raise awareness of the strategy and encourage dialogue around gender equity within our staff community, myself and Professor Norma Harrison, Acting Dean of MGSM are jointly hosting a morning tea to launch the strategy on 08TH March at 11.00am in the E4A Courtyard. Speaking at the event will be Deputy Chancellor, Elizabeth Crouch.

I would very much encourage colleagues – academic, professional, and sessional – to attend if you possibly can. A commitment to equality is in the Faculty's DNA, as evidenced in our very successful support for our female students through the Lucy Mentoring Program, and in MGSM through the WiMBA program. In the wider University, the commitment to equality and opportunity is seen in the form of generous parental and carers leave programs and a new and more comprehensive academic promotions policy. In relation to professional staff FBE supports staff to undertake further tertiary study and encourage them to undertake short term professional development programs.

While we take this commitment very seriously, both as a Faculty and a University we still have a long way to go in achieving gender equity. The launch of the new strategy is an important step forward in this journey, and I hope that as many colleagues as possible will attend.
