FINANCIAL MARKETS & CORPORATE GOVERNANCE 2019

Department of Applied Finance at Macquarie University invites academics and PhD students to submit papers for consideration of presentation at the 10th Financial Markets and Corporate Governance and PhD symposium (FMCG 2019). The Conference and the PhD symposium will be held between 16th -18th April 2019 at the City Campus of Macquarie University—the Angel Place, 123 Pitt Street, Sydney.

FMCG 2019 will be hosted by Department of Applied Finance at Macquarie in conjunction with the Department of Banking and Finance, Monash Business School, Monash University, and La Trobe Business School, La Trobe University and School of Accounting and Commercial Law and School of Economics and Finance, Victoria University of Wellington.

The theme for FMCG 2019 is Capital Markets, Sustainability and Disruptive Technologies, and you are invited to submit papers for presentation at either the conference or the PhD symposium related to all areas which include (but are not limited to): Asset Pricing, Banking, Behavioural Finance, Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Derivatives, Disruptive Innovation, Dividend Policy, Environmental Finance, Emerging Markets, Financial Economics, Financial Reporting, Financial Regulations, Market Microstructure, Investments and Funds Management, Sustainability, etc.

FMCG 2019: Keynote Speakers

Professor Tom Smith has a PhD from Stanford and is regarded as Australia’s top finance academics. His research interests are in the areas of Environmental Finance, Asset Pricing Theory and Tests, Design of Markets – Market Microstructure, and Derivatives. He has published in leading journals including the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Accounting Research.

Tom is particularly proud of his PhD students who have over 50 tier 1 papers in their own names.

Professor Ellie (Larelle) Chapple, from the Queensland University of Technology, is the research leader in Forensic Accounting and the chief investigator in the research program Accounting for Social Change. She is a member of AFAANZ, member of the Corporate Law Teachers Association, Graduate member of AICD and Legal practitioner admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland. Professor Chapple is also the editor of the Accounting Research Journal.

Frank Figge Professor of CSR and Sustainable Development at KEDGE Business School and a visiting professor at Macquarie University. Before joining KEDGE, he was a full professor of CSR at Queen's University Belfast (Northern Ireland) and at the University of St Andrews (Scotland). Frank received his PhD from the University of Basel (Switzerland) in 1998. His current research focuses on the assessment and management of corporate sustainability performance and corporate sustainability strategy, paradoxical management and sustainable finance. He has published in the Academy of Management Review, Organization Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Production Economics and Ecological Economics.

Kathy Walsh is a Professor at the University of Technology Sydney. She has written a number of reports on the internationalisation of the renminbi and its potential as a medium for trade, investments and reserves. Professor Walsh’s research is highly regarded internationally and she has attracted substantial research grant funding. She has prior academic positions at the Australian National University, the University of Sydney and UNSW and industry experience in insurance and financial planning.

Special Conference Issue - Pacific Basin Finance Journal

Pacific Basin Finance Journal will run a special conference issue of the journal and all presenters at the conference are invited to consider submitting their papers for publication after the presentation of their papers at the FMCG Conference. Pacific Basin Finance Journal, published by Elsevier, provides a specialized forum for the publication of academic research on capital markets.

Submission Date

Papers must be submitted by Sunday 20th January, 2019 5:00 pm Australian Eastern Daylight Standard Time.

Late submissions will NOT be accepted under any circumstances so please allow adequate time to complete the online submission process.

Email notification of the outcome of submission is expected to be sent to the submitting author by mid February 2019.

Five Best Research Paper Awards - ($500 each) at the PhD Symposium

One best paper award will be presented under each of the following categories:

  1. Accounting Information/ Disclosure Practices/Earnings Quality/Auditing
  2. Asset Pricing/Emerging Markets /Financial Markets/Market Microstructure
  3. Banking/Behavioural Finance/Corporate Finance/Financial Economics

Five Conference Best Paper Awards - ($1000 each)
