Master of Research (MRes)
The two-year Master of Research (MRes) combines research-based coursework and a thesis.
Designed for: It is our PhD pathway program for students who have already completed a Bachelor or Masters coursework degree (MRes unit exemptions may be granted) and who wish to undertake doctoral (PhD) studies.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
PhD candidates have a drive to contribute to their field of interest through intelligent questions and original, well-researched, and thoroughly investigated answers. This three-year, full-time equivalent program culminates in a thesis of 70,000–100,000 words.
Designed for: Master’s graduates with distinction level results who wish to pursue deeper research in a chosen area.
Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
The Master of Philosophy is a two-year full-time equivalent program where candidates produce a thesis of no more than 50,000 words, which contributes to a field of knowledge through the presentation of new facts and findings.
Designed for: Graduates of a Macquarie University Master of Research or a master’s degree from another institution with credit level results, committed to advancing their research practice.
Bachelor of Philosophy/Master of Research (MRes)
The combined Bachelor of Philosophy and Master of Research program offers candidates a chance to chart a critical reflection of existing research before developing their own analytical evaluation in a 20,000-word thesis.
Designed for: Early career candidates seeking research training and experience.
