Speaker: Professor Georg Peters, Munich University of Applied Sciences & Australian Catholic University Title: A Rough Analysis of IT Business Values Date/Time: Friday, 8 February 2013, 1pm Location: Macquarie University, E6A 357 Abstract: Since Pawlak introduced rough set theory in the early 1980's it has gained increasing interest in academia and has been apply in many real life projects in particular in data mining. Today rough sets are considered as one of the core concepts within soft computing complementing fuzzy sets and others. The presentation introduces to the fundamental idea of rough sets and to the seminal work of Greco et al.: DRSA - Dominance based Rough Set Approach. DRSA induces If-Then rules out of ordinal data. It has already been widely applied in many studies already. As an example, we discuss one of its first applications to the analysis of Business IT value based on data collected by the Australian Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts. This case study shows the great potential of DRSA for information systems research, in particular for the analysis of questionnaires and surveys..
