Macquarie University Arms.

The arms of the University consist of a lighthouse surmounted by a stylised Sirius, the brightest star in the sky. Macquarie Lighthouse was named after Governor Macquarie who was noted for his humanitarianism and interest in education.

By-law XIII 1 of the Macquarie University Act 1989 states that:

“The arms of the University shall be on a field vert, the Macquarie Lighthouse tower, masoned proper, in chief the star Sirius, or, Motto: and gladly teche”. The arms of the University are currently reserved for use on the testamur and specific alumni-related merchandise. Any other usage can only be with permission of the Registrar and Vice-Principal, Macquarie University NSW 2109 Australia.
